My name is Mitzi Avila, and I am an Industrial Designer with a degree from ITESM Mexico. I specialized in residential and commercial interior design at the Tokyo University of Arts. My passion for learning drives me to delve into various design aspects, allowing me to understand my client's needs and personalities better. This approach enables me to create tailored solutions that enhance their daily lives.
To deepen my expertise, I pursued a specialization in Corporate Branding, which has enriched my understanding of both residential design and collaboration with builders, architects, contractors, and fellow designers. This background helps me identify and articulate a firm’s unique identity.
I founded my design firm in Mexico, named Nextia (meaning "Create" in Nahuatl), specializing in creating residential and commercial spaces.
My clientele included homeowners and well-known brands such as Nutella, Coca-Cola, Mars, M&M's, Whiskas, Crayola, Caterpillar, among others. Collaborating with these prominent brands, alongside homeowners and architects, has fueled my creativity and inspired diverse design perspectives.
With my background in industrial design, I also have a passion for product design. This led me to launch my design brand, Piqui (meaning "Invent" in Nahuatl), where I design and craft Mexican products using leather, fabrics, and other materials. I continue to develop this brand, celebrating the rich heritage of Mexican craftsmanship.
My early studies in Marketing, combined with a passion for social media, led me to obtain a certification in Digital Marketing from Columbia Business School. Social media has become a valuable platform for me to share inspiration with emerging talents in the construction industry, and I am always eager to impart my knowledge as part of my legacy.
In 2024, I launched my YouTube podcast, Creative Blueprints. This project aims to reveal the authentic and often overlooked aspects of the design world. In a field frequently seen as flawless, #CreativeBlueprints seeks to highlight the imperfections, untold stories, and unexplored avenues within design, architecture, and construction. By showcasing these narratives, we aspire to inspire new talents and foster a sense of transparency that builds trust and strong connections within our community.
As creatives, we draw inspiration from various sources, whether it's travel, nature, or art, but nothing is more motivating than witnessing others achieve their dreams.
In addition to my passion for design, I am strongly enthusiastic about fitness. I enjoy starting my mornings with a run as part of my daily routine. Another hobby that brings me great joy is baking. Since 2019, I have been the owner and baker at Cookies and Chill, a delightful side venture I pursue in my free time.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about my journey!
